The pathways out of high school are evolving. Across the country, there’s a renewed emphasis on career and technical education, without necessarily ruling out college as an option. A growing number of schools are leaning into experiential, hands-on learning to engage students in present learning and possible future careers. These opportunities can help students graduate with an industry credential, college credit, and/or internship experience under their belts. Transforming the high school experience to this more robust, inclusive, and hands-on model requires thoughtful planning and flexible implementation.
