The new ticketing trial is restricted to East Midlands Railway (EMR) routes between Leicester, Derby, and Nottingham, but the Department for Transport (DfT) is promising a further roll-out at the end of the month in Yorkshire, on routes run by Northern. The latest ticketing technology replaces the need for paper tickets and even mobile tickets bought ahead of a journey. Rail Minister, Lord Hendy, said: “The railway ticketing system is far too complicated and long overdue an upgrade to bring it into the 21st Century.
