The previous government awarded funding for feasibility studies for 50 stations in May 2024, pledging £350 million diverted from the cancellation of HS2 Phase 2a in November 2023. One of those stations is Leagrave (near Luton in Bedfordshire), which was awarded feasibility funding as part of the 50 announced in 2024. A campaign for step-free access at the station has been ongoing for nearly a decade, with only Luton Airport station having step-free access in the town (Luton’s main station has been waiting for nearly 20 years for funding).
