The long-awaited second platform at Newquay station has been signed off by the Office of Rail and Road. The Cornish station, which once boasted three platforms, had been cut back to just one for nearly 40 years. However, the original Platform 1 has been rebuilt as part of the Mid Cornwall Metro, a project which has also included the laying of a 400-metre-long passing loop at Goss Moor earlier this year. Mid Cornwall Metro will eventually lead to direct services between Newquay and Falmouth via Par (where trains currently terminate), St Austell and Truro. "We’re pleased to have played our part in getting Newquay station ready to open.
