GB Railfreight has been stepping up its preparations for operating Network Rail’s autumn and winter treatment trains. The freight operator, along with Colas, won the contract to operate the seasonal trains from August 4. It also includes reintroducing six multi-purpose vehicles which have been re-engineered from overhead line use into seasonal vehicles. GBRf will operate them in the north while Balfour Beatty will do the same in the south. The previous contract was split between GBRf, Colas, DB Cargo UK, Freightliner and DRS.
