One of the UK’s leading port operators is planning a £100 million investment steel and metals logistics, with rail connections. Peel Ports Group (PPG) is already investing £32m at its Port of Liverpool steel and metals terminals, but also plans to create a second terminal at the site dedicated to steel coilsFurther south, at Port of London Medway in Sheerness, another automated terminal will also be built. PPG has said these will be developed to include rail connectivity which will be boosted new a rail terminal in the Midlands. Chief Operating Officer, David Huck, described the investment as “game-changing”. In April the firm reported a 35% increase in steel imports through Liverpool to 702,000 tonnes, making it a record-breaking year.
