Findings from a real-world study evaluating cardiovascular disease-related outcomes in older patients treated with semaglutide and dulaglutide were presented by Novo Nordisk at the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) 2025 Annual Meeting. The study’s aim was to directly compare cardiovascular outcomes among semaglutide (n=29,168) and dulaglutide (n=29,168) users. “ This is great news for older patients as well as health care professionals, as these results build on the importance of our randomized clinical trial data assessing the effectiveness of treatments in a real-life setting. Results showed that compared with dulaglutide, semaglutide reduced the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events (3-point MACE; myocardial infarction [MI], stroke, and death) by 23%. Semaglutide was also associated with a 25% reduction in the risk of 5-point MACE (MI, stroke, hospitalization for unstable angina or heart failure, and death) and a 26% reduction in the risk of death vs dulaglutide.
