As a member of the first graduating class at Saint Maria Goretti High School for Girls, I am always delighted to read articles about wonderful things happening at the now co-ed Neumann-Goretti High School. So it was exciting to read Mark Zimmaro’s report on their new volleyball coach (“New coach a lifesaver for N-G volleyball,” Sept. 17). As the article describes, the girls volleyball team, the Saints, lost their former coach during the preseason to another high school in Delaware. A new coach, John DeRenzi, himself a cancer survivor thanks to a lifesaving kidney transplant, applied for the job. As Zimmaro reports, DeRenzi needed, asked for and received help from new assistant coach Nora Cerone as well as preseason assistant Scott Carrillo.
