Having said all of that, the only thing fans in Winnipeg are going to care about is how he performs in the playoffs. Like Andrei Vasilevskiy in Tampa Bay, it might be an issue of him taking on too big a workload during the regular season and being burnt out come playoff time. Hellebuyck plays more games and minutes than any other goalie in the NHL, and has done so for almost seven years now. Perhaps he needs a better backup to give him some rest during the regular season, allowing him to approach the playoffs with a fresher perspective. For better or worse, that is the narrative of his career to this point, and it is up to him to change it.
