Claire Burrows, a partner at the independent law firm Brabners, has noted:Martyn’s Law is set to affect thousands of businesses across a wide range of sectors. “Eve’s Law” may be what Martin Hibbert wants, but he is not alone in that desire. If Eve’s Law is enacted as proposed, it will be virtually impossible for any independent media journalist or outlet to question power. Assuming Eve’s Law progresses as planned, it is perhaps more likely that any evidence brought forth by conspiracy theorists will be automatically ruled inadmissible by virtue of being legally declared a “conspiracy theory” under Eve’s Law. Eve’s Law is intended to ensure that the independent media, likewise, will never again serve the public interest.
