LeBron James is 40 years old, entering the final season of his contract with the Los Angeles Lakers and still playing at a high level. There is no consensus about what the future holds for the King, including from NBA insiders. On Monday, ESPN's Tim Bontemps shared the results of a poll of 20 coaches, scouts and executives that included the question "Where will LeBron James be at the start of the 2026-27 season?" James' agent, Rich Paul, also brought additional attention to the situation in June with comments he made to ESPN's Shams Charania. A Western Conference scout who predicted retirement said, "It just feels like it's where it's going to end."
