The convictions of two former public servants who tried to corruptly profit from the Christchurch earthquake rebuild had to be set aside after a procedural error made by the Solicitor-General’s office, the Supreme Court has confirmed.
Solicitor-General Una Jagose says her office has now “significantly strengthened” its processes as a result of the mistake, which meant the men ultimately walked free after the Serious Fraud Office opted against a fresh prosecution.
