Deputy President Paul Mashatile has declared ownership of a R28.9 million mansion in Constantia, Cape Town, that is reportedly legally owned by his son-in-law’s company. Mashatile made the declaration in Parliament’s register of members’ interests for June 2025 published this week. “The Deputy President uses Highstead when he is in Cape Town and has not used any other residence. In February 2024, the Democratic Alliance (DA) filed a complaint against Mashatile with the Joint Committee on Ethics and Members’ Interests for allegedly breaching the members’ Code of Conduct. In May this year, the Deputy President confirmed that he had submitted a “detailed response to the Ethics Committee.”However, the outcome of the Committee’s probe remained unclear at the time of publishing.
