Noel Clarke must pay at least £3m to the publisher of The Guardian after losing a libel battle with the newspaper. ‘A false case’On Tuesday, the same judge said Clarke must pay £3m ahead of a detailed assessment into the total costs to be recovered, estimated to be above £6m. The barrister also said Clarke had originally asked for damages of £10m, which then increased to £40m and then £70m as the case progressed. He also asked the court to hold payment of costs pending an appeal. “A crushing order would not just punish me, it would punish my children and wife, and they do not deserve that.” Clarke must pay the £3m within 28 days.
