This is just plain silly. Despite all the bluster, the US isn't leaving NATO, and the Europeans can’t even reach 2% of GDP in 2026, let alone 3-5% in 2035. Such increases will be needed for land forces, and they'll never have the money (let alone the will) to build the navy that Commander Viscovich hypothesizes. Canada will be lucky if someday it can defend its Arctic territories without US help, so running North Atlantic convoys without US submarines isn’t going to happen. It's not as though France(9), England (9) or Germany (8) can spare any of their submarines from the Baltic, North Sea or Mediterranean. The real test is whether the Europeans can slow or deter the Russians if they decide to move against Europe while the US surface fleet is tied up with Iran AND China. Even if the fleet is busy elsewhere, the US will still be providing the communications and intelligence as always.
