Alongside First Lady Melania Trump, the president returned to the U.N. for the first time since the start of his second term, delivering a speech that criticized U.S. allies on multiple topics.
Trump began by offering “the hand of American leadership and friendship to any nation in this assembly that is willing to join us in forging a safer, more prosperous world.”The president told European leaders they're destroying their countries with immigration and green energy, and made an extraordinary claim that London wants to “go to sharia law” as he launched a blistering attack on Mayor Sadiq Khan, calling him a “terrible, terrible mayor.”He also said that recognition of a Palestinian state was a reward for Hamas before calling for the immediate release from Gaza of the October 7 hostages taken from Israel.
On Ukraine, the president said the war “is not making Russia look good,” and called on Europe to join the U.S. in imposing “powerful tariffs” and to stop buying Russian oil.
