A man walking on Interstate 5 near Camp Pendleton was struck and killed early Monday morning, the California Highway Patrol said. The incident happened just after 12:20 a.m. on I-5 several hundred feet south of Basilone Road, Officer Jared Grieshaber said. According to Grieshaber, the man had been walking in northbound lanes of the freeway and crossed over to the southbound lanes. While in the fast lane of the southbound side of the freeway, the pedestrian was struck by a Ford Mustang. “Investigators have not determined whether alcohol or drugs played a role for the pedestrian,” he said.
