Ending community parking district boards enrages Pacific Beach residents
['Steven Mihailovich']
San Diego Union-Tribune
Dismay and outrage permeated the Pacific Beach Town Council after the city proposed dissolving community parking district advisory boards just hours before the Sept. 17 meeting.
Parking meters in PB were installed in late 2023 in the business district, primarily on and around Garnet Avenue, with 319 total meters to date.
Resident Scott Chipman noted that the community “roundly” opposed parking meters when they were first proposed at a Discover PB meeting more than 10 years ago.
Discover PB is the local business improvement district that operates the PB CPD advisory board, where the town council has a representative.
According to Chipman, the scheme was resurrected and ratified during the pandemic under “a questionable approval process.”“The city offered a community parking district, (saying) you can improve your business district.
