Two days after being designated for assignment, catcher Ali Sánchez learned Tuesday that he’ll remain with the Red Sox organization. He played eight games for Toronto before being designated for assignment in August, then picked up by the Red Sox as a third catching option. The Red Sox then re-acquired him in a minor trade on August 31 and added him back to the big league roster when rosters expanded on September 1. Despite being active for four weeks over two stints, Sánchez never started a game and played very sparingly, getting two plate appearances while catching 3 ⅓ innings for the Red Sox. He is a career .183 hitter with four RBIs in 50 career MLB games with the Mets, Cardinals, Marlins, Blue Jays and Red Sox.
