FACT: Evidence suggests acetaminophen use in pregnant women, especially late in pregnancy, may cause long-term neurological effects in their children.”But that’s not the whole story. New research shows that while acetaminophen is linked to neurodevelopment disorders and prenatal exposure, it does not suggest acetaminophen causes autism. “Of these, 27 studies reported positive associations,” — meaning they were significantly linked to neurodevelopment disorders, the review states. Additionally, nine studies showed no significant link and four showed no negative associations — but “overall,” the majority of studies showed a “positive association[s] of prenatal acetaminophen use,” and neurodevelopment disorders.
