Southeastern Oklahoma State University has established a Magnolia Preservation and Tree Renewal Plan to ensure the preservation of The Campus of a Thousand Magnolias for generations to come. Renewal : For every magnolia that must be removed, at least two new magnolias will be planted elsewhere on campus. Likewise, for each non-magnolia tree removed, two native trees will be planted to preserve ecological diversity and provide resources for wildlife. Sustainability: The task force is exploring long-term opportunities and recommendations, including the possibility of developing Southeastern’s campus into an accredited arboretum. “Our Task Force has been purposefully considering the best practices for the preservation of heritage on campus while also looking towards sustainability and safety,” said interim vice president and Task Force lead Mark Bisson.
