Scam call centres often masquerade as legitimate businesses, with operators adopting the language and mannerisms of investment advisers to manipulate their victims. Blue Energy Call used the names Globalix and BrokerZ. Panda Trading Systems, the Israeli firm behind the software, did not respond to a request for comment. Arben Gramo, an Albanian lawyer representing several victims in the criminal case against Blue Energy Call, including the Breunig couple, told BIRN that Kasmi and his agents deployed highly sophisticated fraud methods. Modern fraud techniques, Gramo explained, have evolved far beyond the “salesmanship” of boiler-room brokers, relying instead on software that constructs a convincing but entirely fake trading reality.
