Blitz: the Club that Shaped the 80s – Music Exhibition News
['Tim Jones']
Record Collector Magazine
80s music the focus of Design Museum music exhibition in London, as Nick Dalton recountsThe colour, the noise and the stars in the making… Blitz, the pokey (in a good way) club changed the face of music and fashion in an extraordinary coming together of art school and punk rebels, all inside a fantastical dressing-up box, creating, for many, the look and sound of the 80s.
This irrepressible exhibition celebrates that fact, with help from the scene’s ‘sonic architect’, Rusty Egan, as well as Spandau Ballet’s then manager, Steve Dagger.
The exhibition sets the scene before and after Blitz’s days (1979-80), harking back to Ziggy Stardust (via a Top Of The Pops film).
Not just about a club – a time, a music and a fashion, which is what makes it so fun.
Blitz: the club that shaped the 80s is at the Design Museum, Kensington High Street, London, until 26 March 2026.
