Long regarded as a key actor in the global fight against human trafficking, the US Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons, known as the TIP Office is now facing severe cuts. Every year, the TIP Office publishes the Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report, grading every country globally on the issue. Moreover, the TIP heroes, who were expected to come to the United States for release of the TIP report, had all of their trips cancelled. Cuts to USAID-funded victim support and anti-trafficking programmes in Europe have already forced several initiatives to shut down. The elimination of the TIP Office threatens to multiply these effects.
