By 21 February 2021, Spanish authorities will require all technicians working with refrigerant to have completed a minimum of six hours training in using alternative refrigerant. However, REAL Alternatives 4 LIFE said that a rapid across uptake had been seen in recent months for two courses it offers based on using lower flammability gas and carbon dioxide. The need for alternative refrigerants is seen as a major focus for Spanish authorities due to the country’s dependency on cooling technology for buildings and food production. Funding provided by the environment ministry has now been used to translate training materials and e-learning tools into Spanish. REAL Alternatives 4 LIFE said in a statement praised leadership from the Environment Agency in Spain as leading to an increased awareness of low GWP refrigerant.
