Refrigerant and heat pump manufacturers react with dismay to vote for stricter measuresThe European Parliament has voted with a convincing majority to bring stronger measures into the F-Gas regulation. They did however agree a minor amendment to extend the date for a ban on new heat pumps containing HFCs. After that, negotiations known as ‘trilogues’ will take place between the European Commission, European Parliament and the European Council of national leaders to finalise the new rules. The European Heat Pump Association said the move ‘put the path to decarbonised buildings at risk’. EIA Climate Campaign Leader Clare Perry said: “We urgently need the heat pump roll-out, but it needs to avoid as far as possible the use of HFC refrigerants…The parliament position supports leading European heat pump manufacturers that are investing in sustainable natural refrigerant technologies.”
