The Scottsdale City Council earlier this week tabled plans to move forward with a lawsuit over a new state law that cancels a public vote on the proposed headquarters for law enforcement technology company Axon. Axon lobbied state lawmakers earlier this year to bar voters in every city and town in Arizona from being able to challenge zoning and development decisions. However, Councilmember Barry Graham made a substitute motion that included direction to file a lawsuit against the state challenging the constitutionality of the law. Axon had previously said this year that it was done negotiating with Scottsdale, calling it a “toxic environment.” Axon refused to comment on this story. We should hold an election…to me it is black and white.”The vote on Graham’s motion failed with Borowsky, Whitehead, Kwasman and Councilmember Maryann McAllen voting no.
