The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors picked Allister Adel to replace Bill Montgomery, making her Maricopa County’s first female county attorney. She immediately replaces Rachel Mitchell, who had been the acting Maricopa County attorney. Mitchell, who was also a finalist for the appointment, will go back to her previous position of being second-in-command to the county attorney. Immediately after the vote, Adel was sworn in as the new county attorney and made some remarks to the board and those in attendance. “I am honored to be your next county attorney, your first woman county attorney and like I told you in the interviews I am going to work hard and I’m not going to let you down,” she said.
