Jolie adopted her oldest son, Maddox, from Cambodia in 2002. Her hope was that the residence would give Maddox a chance to stay connected to his Cambodian culture and also act as a home base for her work as a conservationist there (she founded the Maddox Jolie-Pitt Foundation that same year). Inviting as it sounds, Jolie didn’t stay long; she sold the pad for $2.8 million after less than a year of ownership, according to the New York Post.
