The New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Tuesday 23 September 2025 began a crucial vetting of presidential aspirants as the race for the party’s 2026 flagbearer slot intensifies.
Proceedings are underway at the party’s headquarters in Adabraka, Accra, under the supervision of a committee chaired by Dr Addo Kufuor.
They include former Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, Abetifi MP and former Food and Agriculture Minister Bryan Acheampong, and former Education Minister Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum.
The presidential primary is slated for 31 January 2026, with a run-off set for 14 February should no candidate secure an outright win.
Party leaders have urged supporters to keep the campaign clean, even as competition within the NPP grows sharper ahead of what promises to be a fiercely contested vote.
