The station WCMZ, operated by Central Michigan University, has been sold in a reverse spectrum auction to the Federal Communications Commission. The station signed on as WFUM in 1980 and was operated by U of M Flint until being sold to CMU in 2010. In a reverse spectrum auction, the station’s frequency will be reused for cellular communications. WCMZ’s spectrum is valued at 14-million dollars. The station will go off air at midnight tonight.
