Larry J. Sassaman, 87, of Lewisburg, passed away early Tuesday morning, Sept. 16, 2025, at Evangelical Community Hospital. He was a native of Snyder County, born in Troxelville on July 11, 1938, a son of the late George and Mildred (Casner) Sassaman. He was married to the former Paula Bowersox and his death breaks a union of 54 years. Larry was a 1956 graduate of the West Snyder High School. He went on to serve in the Army from 1961 to 1964, receiving medical training at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. Larry was a medical technologist and served for a period of time as Evangelical Community Hospital's laboratory manager, retiring from the hospital in 2006 after 42 years of service. He spent his lifetime serving the Lord, was a member of Snydertown Christian Assembly and enjoyed doing family genealogy, tracing his lineage back to the middle 1500s in central Germany. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons: Christopher Sassaman and his wife, Misty, of Millville, and Shawn Sassaman of Sunbury; a daughter, Johanna Geyer and husband, Jessie, of Rebuck; three grandchildren: Andrew Sassaman and wife, Katie, of Northumberland, Erikah Groninger and husband, Andrew, of Holiday, Florida, and Trey Geyer; a great-grandson, Elliot Sassaman; and a brother, Dalton Sassaman, and wife Sue of Vira. He was preceded in death by a son, Eric Sassaman, in 1973; a sister, Janet Boreman; and two brothers: Lyle Sr. and Roger Sassaman. Friends and relatives will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 22, at the John H. Shaw III Funeral Home in Lewisburg, followed by a funeral service led by Jonathan Stassel of Snydertown Christian Assembly. Burial will be in the Lewisburg Cemetery. Arrangements are by the John H. Shaw III Funeral Home, Lewisburg.
