Nineteen years ago, while attending Readercon, Sean Wallace and I had a discussion about the state of short fiction that led to creation of this magazine. Behind our tables in the dealer’s room, we’ll likely continue our nineteen-year discussion about the state of short fiction. A. W. Prihandita’s novelette “Negative Scholarship on the Fifth State of Being” won a Nebula Award. Octavia Cade’s article “Fact, Fiction, and Feeling: Ecological Grief in a Changing World” won a Sir Julius Vogel Award. I’m a Hugo finalist for Best Editor Short Form this year and just won the Locus Award for Best Editor.
