My core rotation includes: a black Burberry trench passed down from my grandmother, a worn-in leather jacket inherited from my dad, an oversized single-breasted wool coat found in the men’s section of my local charity shop five years ago, a padded bomber jacket with tangerine lining (my autumn uniform) and a faded Carhartt Detroit barn jacket – another men’s section gem, discovered last year. Each one of my black coats serves a purpose – the wool number for nocturnal pursuits, the bomber for office days and the barn jacket for woodland weekend walks – all of which are interchangeable depending on how cold it actually is and the vibe of the destination I’m headed to.
