It’s all part of Project Loon, a suitably wacky Google X brainchild that looks to connect remote parts of the world with a network of floating signal hubs. Telstra says it’s going to supply base stations across the western Queensland area that will beam up internet to the balloon network above. Eventually Google hopes it will have enough balloons in the stratosphere to push internet to the roughly 60 per cent of Earth’s population currently without access to the web.
