Bishop William J. Barber II, a noted human rights activist, was in Charlotte Sunday to speak against the Trump administration and its social and economic policies, which Barber labeled detrimental to poor and working-class families. The stop was the first of 10 cities where Barber said he would preach in local pulpits and organize a resistance movement. In Charlotte, Barber compared America’s poor to the biblical story of four lepers found in the Book of 2 Kings. “It’s time for a rising of the lepers,” Barber said of disenfranchised groups in America. Barber will return to preach at First Baptist Church-West on July 20 and 27.
