Southern University lifts campus lockdown; other HBCUs heighten security

Southern University has lifted a lockdown in placed on its campus Thursday morning, though classes have been canceled for the remainder of the week.
Students who live on campus are being provided with accommodations, according to a statement from the university.
Lockdowns have also been confirmed at other Historically Black Colleges and University campuses:Alabama State UniversityClark Atlanta UniversityBethune-Cookman UniversityHampton UniversitySouth Carolina State UniversitySpelman CollegeVirginia State UniversityThere have been no reports of threats or incidents at Louisiana’s other four HBCUs: Dillard, Grambling State, Southern University at New Orleans and Xavier.
Mount Herman High School in Washington Parish went on high alert in response to a social media threat that turned out to be unfounded.
Barbe High School in Lake Charles was placed on lockdown after a report of a weapon being brought to campus.
