Dale Richard Smith, 62, passed away on August 6, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Meadville, PA, on June 18, 1963, the son of Arthur and Linda Getchell. He was a 1981 graduate from Meadville Area High School. In his early years, Dale worked a variety of sales jobs around the area before pursuing his entrepreneurial spirit and running Dale's Lawn Service for nearly a decade. He later shifted his focus to the environmental field, returning to school and graduating from Edinboro University in 2014 with a bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies. Dale found his true calling at National Fuel Gas, where he enjoyed a rewarding career until retiring in 2021. He was also a life member of the S.B. Dick Hose Company and Crawford County Scuba Team. Retirement gave Dale the opportunity to embrace the things he loved most and check some items off his bucket list. He was passionate about all things fast, especially his Corvette. He enjoyed time at the ocean with his wife, Michelle, and in 2024, they fulfilled their dream by permanently moving to Florida. Above all, Dale's greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren who brought him endless happiness. Survivors include his loving wife Michelle Edinger; mother Linda; two sons Kyle Smith (Becca) and Ryan Smith (Samantha); siblings Thomas Smith, Gina Foulk, and Renee Haylett (Kevin); three grandchildren: Harper, Jackson, and Owen; and several stepsisters, a stepbrother, nieces, and nephews. Dale was preceded in death by his father Arthur and birth father Roger Smith. Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life at Vernon Central Hose Company, 16589 McMath Ave, Meadville on September 13, 2025 from 1-4 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Butler County Community College Michelle Edinger '84 Scholarship or Yolonda G. Barco Oncology Institute.
