Stewart Eugene McPheters of Goose Creek, S.C., lost his long courageous battle with cancer August 20, 2025. He was the first son to George S. and Wilma Minnick McPheters born on Valentine's Day 1947 at the Franklin, PA, hospital. He spent his childhood on a rural farm near Chapmanville (Plum), PA. Stewart graduated from Townville Consolidated High School, served in the Army, and graduated from Oral Roberts University. He lived in PA, N.Y., OK, GA and Canada over his career having various employments not all inclusive with ORU Tulsa, a tool company on St. Simons, and a clothing manufacturer in Vancouver, Canada. He enjoyed golfing, computer technology, woodworking, and track (competing in a marathon once without training). He was an active member of the Golden Isles Track Club, St. Simons, GA. In their words: "As President for several years, Stewart was responsible for the advent of computer usage in local race results, streamlining race organization and he constructed large wooden tables used for results and refreshments. He routinely drove GITCers to out of town races in his Suburban, AKA Subdivision and ran in the races himself. Long remembered for his leadership, resounding laugh and bright smile, he will be forever missed and fondly remembered by those who knew and loved him." He is survived by his wife, Kathy Richards-McPheters; sisters, MaryAnn Herrington of Meadville, PA, Barbara Corey (David) of Sun City West, AZ; brothers, Paul L. McPheters of Meadville, PA, and Scott O.McPheters (Susan) of Tulsa, OK; nieces, Stacy Strickland, N,C,, Christina Olson, OK, Kimberly Spellman, OK, Laura McPheters, OK, Ashley McPheters, OK; and nephews, Stephen Corey, CA, Scott McPheters, OK, Andrew McPheters, CO, Matthew McPheters, OK, Shawn McPheters, CO, Robert N. Herrington, PA, and Jason McPheters, PA. Preceded in death by his mother and father, George and Wilma McPheters; a sister, Nancy Lee Heth; and a brother-in-law, Robert C. Herrington. We will remember his quiet strength, sharp wit and the encouragement he gave to others. His legacy of faith, service, hard work, love for family and passion for life will remain in the hearts of those he touched.
