Ronald "Joe" Dickson, 85 of Cochranton passed away on Friday, September 5, 2025, at Pittsburgh VA Medical Center. He was born on February 13, 1940 in East Fairfield Township; a son of Maurice and Dorothy Hart Dickson. Joe was a 1958 graduate of Cochranton High School. He enlisted in the United States Army Medical Corp 1962 during the Vietnam War and was stationed at Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, DC. After his honorable discharge in 1964, Joe enrolled at Edinboro University where he earned his bachelor's degree in 1968 and then a master's degree in 1971. He also graduated from Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science in 1969. In 1972, Joe purchased Edward J. Fleming Funeral Home in Cochranton, renaming it Ronald Dickson Funeral Home. In 2002, His nephew Michael Dickson purchased the funeral home and renamed it Dickson Family Funeral Home, Inc. In 1986, he purchased Rhodes Funeral Home in Conneaut Lake, renaming it Dickson Funeral Home. Hatheway Tedesco Funeral Home subsequently purchased this funeral home from Joe in 2012. Joe then retired after 40 years in the mortuary business. Joe was also a deputy coroner for Crawford County from 1981-2018. He was a member of the James L. Steen Legion Post 836 in Cochranton. Joe loved to hunt; shooting many woodchucks at "the dirt" and looked forward to deer hunting with his great-nieces each year. He also loved to fish and went on numerous fishing excursions to Black Lake, NY with his buddies. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Dickson. He is survived by his grandchildren Matthew Morris, Jacob and Anthony Morrison, and Sydney France and their grandmother Connie Dickson. He is also survived by his brother Lynn Dickson and niece Kim Mango, and nephews Jeff, David, and Mike Dickson, numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews, and a very special friend, Sidney Knapp. Visitation will be held at Dickson Funeral Home in Conneaut Lake on Tuesday, September 9, from 4 pm to 7 pm. Additional visitation will be held at Dickson Family Funeral Home, Inc Cochranton, on Wednesday, September 10 from 11 am to 2 pm. Funeral services will follow at 2 pm with Rev. Curt Brenizer presiding. Burial will be in Cochranton Cemetery with full military honors.
