Reverend Rachel Johns went to heaven on September 13, 2025, after a brief illness. She was born December 21, 1949, in Kittanning, PA, to Albert and J. Patricia (Orr) Johns.
Rachel graduated from Freeport High school and went on to IUP for her Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education. Rachel taught at Meadville Area High School for 20 years before she retired and went on to Pittsburgh Theological Seminary to pursue her calling as a Presbyterian minister. She served several small churches in the Meadville and Franklin areas for over 30 years until she retired in 2023. During her time as a pastor, she started many children's ministry programs in various churches and her most prized ministry program, WOW (Worship on Wednesday), that served the disabled community who might not otherwise get to church. Rachel and her husband were foster parents to many children through the years and then continued to share their home and love with developmentally delayed adults.
Rachel married Richard Norr on October 18, 1975, at First Presbyterian Church in Meadville. He preceded her in death on May 4, 2020.
Rachel is survived by her daughters, Erica Deeter (John) of Saegertown, PA, and Melissa Norr of Washington, D.C.; the lights of her life - her grandchildren, Shayla, Josie and Jordan Deeter of Saegertown, PA; her sister, Cathy (Roger) Smeltzer of Slate Lick, PA; her brother, Albert "Bud" (Donna) Johns of Kittanning; several nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly; and the three Young boys who had a special place in her heart.
Rachel was preceded in death by her parents, Albert Johns Sr. and J. Patricia (Orr) Johns, and her niece, Pam Johns.
Viewing and funeral will be held on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at the New Beginnings Church, Leslie Road in Meadville.
Friends will be received from 10:00am until the time of the service at 11:00 AM. The DICKSON FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, INC., Cochranton, is in charge of arrangements.
