We stand firmly with T’solo Thakeli, a 31-year-old lawyer and entrepreneur from Lesotho, enduring relentless persecution, unjust arrests, and severe harassment by the Lesotho government. His courage in challenging injustice embodies a commitment to transparency and human rights. Thakeli’s detention violates his freedom of expression under Article 19 of the ICCPR and Article 9 of the ACHPR. The government’s life-threatening intimidation to silence his advocacy contravenes the UN Declaration on Human Rights Defenders (1998), which protects those promoting human rights.
