OTTUMWA [mdash]Charles Richard "C.R." Baird, 92, of Ottumwa died at 7:15 p.m. July 7, 2025 at his home. He was born October 30, 1932 to Charles Richard and Iva Illian Latta Baird. He married Doris I. Kirk July 7, 1955 and she preceded him in death December 16, 2008. A resident of Ottumwa most of his life, C.R. graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1951 and attended Parsons College. As a self-employed contractor he painted barns and owned several rental properties. C.R. then owned and operated Baird Paint retiring in 1988. He was a member of Ottumwa Lodge #16 A.F. & A.M. and Ottumwa Shrine Club. C.R. hosted the annual Shriner's sweet corn and bologna feed. He had a great love for his hobby farm where he enjoyed entertaining family and friends and worked on various projects, including decorating emu and ostrich eggs. He enjoyed fishing, square dancing, golfing, taking motorcycle trips and spending winters in Arizona. Surviving are his children, Toni McFarland and Scott (Colleen) Baird both of Ottumwa; daughter-in-law, Laura Baird of Bloomfield; 7 grandchildren, Michele (Danny), Jeffery (Julia), Tyler, Clayton, Alex (Shaylee), Kimberlee (Will), Justin; 9 great grandchildren, Savannah, Hanna, Austin (Erica), Emmett, Violet, River, Reign, Karson, and Michael (Courtney); 5 great-great grandchildren, Roran, Alayna, Willow, Amara, and Kasey. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Greg Baird; brothers, Scott Baird and Russell Baird; a sister, Frances Boyer; and a great grandchild, Faith Ann. Visitation will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday July 13th with the family present to greet friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday July 14th at Reece Funeral Home with Dan Smith officiating. Burial will be in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Bloomfield. Memorials may be made to Shriner's Hospitals for Children.
