Thank you for your comments. To clarify, our point is that certification efforts for producing sustainable palm oil products should continue and that we should include independent smallholders in those efforts. The implementation of voluntary standards such as RSPO has proven that this kind of effort has helped independent smallholders improve their palm oil management and increase their knowledge of environmental practices, giving them a chance to enter the global sustainability market. We agree with your comment that more support is needed for independent smallholders. However, since in Indonesia we have a large number of smallholders, and support from NGOs or donors will not be enough, we also think that sustainability commitments from bigger plantations/companies can be part of the solution for smallholders -- Ernawati Apriani, CIFOR
