Selected as one of the first programmers for the historic MANIAC computer, Mary spent her career solving complex problems in mathematics and applied physics. Following retirement, Mary and Joe fully embraced life in Los Alamos. She is survived by her two daughters, Dr. Ann Menzel (John Charney) of Pittsburgh, PA, and Dr. Carol Menzel of San Antonio, TX; eight grandchildren: Taylor Stine (Chelsea), Connor Charney (Elisa), Quinn Charney, Grant Charney, Kyle Anderson (Veda), Jillian Anderson, Lauren Anderson, and Nathan Anderson; and three great-grandchildren.
