Gary Weeks, of Acworth, Ga., 75, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 30 after a long, courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. A native of Joplin, Missouri, he was the son of the late Patty Setser Talbot (Bob) and Elton Weeks (Dorothy "Peach"). The loving father is survived by his daughters Genevieve Weeks and Savannah Weeks, brother Hoot Myers (Jackie) and nephew Jack Myers, brothers Bill Weeks (Becky), Don Weeks and sister Julie Talbot Ramsey (Todd). He is preceded in death by brother Jeff Talbot and sister Carol "Sis" Avila. An avid outdoorsman, he loved hiking, the lake, fishing, kayaking and birding. He loved his late dog Lucy and enjoyed many peaceful years on Lake Allatoona after retiring from a career in public health, working for the Centers for Disease Control and the Georgia Department of Health. He leaves a legacy of love, generosity, a fierce sense of independence and humor. He will be missed and was loved by many, including many nieces, nephews, beloved cousins Conni Womack (Mark), Teresa Setser, Toni Setser-Newberry (Rick), of Joplin, MO.; Danny English (Joyce) and sons Ben and Paul; Janet Messner; neighbors and friends and several very special caregivers and their families. A celebration of life will be hosted at Cauble Park Beach House in Acworth, GA., on Friday, October 10 at 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Alzheimer's Association or the Chattahoochee Riverkeeper.
