A major journalism house dedicated to training women journalists is to shut down at the end of 2025, citing the collapse of philanthropic support.
Global Press, first formed in 2006, trained and employed local women journalists – going against the grain of traditional parachute journalism from corporate and institutional media.
‘Sustainable philanthropic support has become increasingly out of reach and the landscape around us has shifted in ways that make it impossible to sustain the level of quality and integrity we’ve upheld for two decades,’ Global Press said in a statement.
Global Press worked on investigations and stories spanning the Global South.
Every day for the last 20 years, we have lived our values and produced one-of-a-kind journalism that we are truly proud of,’ said Global Press.
