Australia’s Minderoo Foundation has pledged $1 million towards protecting frontline aid workers. It comes after 2024 was declared the deadliest yet for humanitarian workers in conflict zones, with over 380 people killed. Minderoo’s announcement was made on the eve of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, where world leaders will convene. Australia, along with Britain, France, Portugal and Malta, will formally recognise Palestinian statehood at the UN General Assembly. Minderoo donated $10 million to support humanitarian aid in Gaza in 2023, with funding going towards the UN and Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders).
