NEW YORK—A total of $1.8 billion in funding has been committed to the Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities Forest Tenure pledge, according to a report released today. The sum surpasses the goal of $1.7 billion raised over five years, set at COP26 in Glasgow in 2021, a year ahead of schedule. The pledge was launched four years ago by an alliance of 17 major climate foundations, alongside governments of several Western nations. This alliance committed to raising $.17 billion to help Indigenous and local communities protect tropical forests. The report was published today, as New York Climate Week and the United Nations General Assembly get underway in New York City.
