GOSHEN [mdash] Our beloved sister, mother, and grandmother, Patricia A. Turco, a.k.a. "Gramma Pat," died peacefully in her sleep on Aug. 28, in Goshen. She passed away after a 4 ½ year battle with cancer. To say she was close to the Lord was an understatement, a testimony to the life she lived and the people she influenced. Heaven has gained an angel who will look after her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the family of community residents who looked to her for guidance and both emotional and spiritual support. Gramma Pat was born May 28, 1932, the daughter of Ray and Celeste (Sarbonowski) Lynch. Her father was an attorney in the U.S. Army; and she was blessed to travel throughout the United States. The family settled in Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan; and she attended high school in Detroit, then graduated as a LPN nurse from St. Mary's school in 1950. She met the love of her life, James "Jimmy" Turco, at the Jack and Jill Dude Ranch, where she worked in the summer of 1950, recovering from encephalitis. The two were married Oct. 8, 1955, in Detroit, Michigan. The couple moved several times over the first several years of their marriage, before settling in Muskegon, Michigan. They had five children, although one died at birth. They spent a long time in Muskegon, before Jimmy was asked to relocate to "the land of Goshen" where the two of them lived until he passed away on March 4, 1990. Living in Goshen allowed Pat to grow and thrive. Her church, St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, was one of the foundations of her life. She taught Sunday school for over 30 years. She was also involved with the high school youth group, was a Eucharistic minister, a Lector, and part of multiple prayer groups. With her daughter Kathleen, she volunteered at Catholic Heart Work Camp and the Center for Healing and Hope. In 2016, she was awarded the Goshen News "Angel Among Us" award. Gramma Pat was proceeded in death by her husband, James Turco; brother, Henry Lynch; sister, Mary Celeste Lynch; an infant daughter; and daughter-in-law, Leanna Turco. She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen "Kathy" Turco; sons, Raymond "Ray" and Aurora M. Turco of Arlington, Texas, Brian Turco of Elkhart, and Stephen and Mary Turco of Trenton, Michigan; seven grandchildren, Daniel (Jaimie) Turco, Elizabeth Turco, Franchesca (Ryan) Kiel, Skye (Braden) Bowlin, Andrew Turco, Sophia Turco, and Emily Turco; six great-grandchildren, Calvin Turco, Elodie Turco, Saphrirra Vincent, Christopher Vincent III, Aurora Vincent, and Ilyana Bowlin, and her sister, Genevieve (James) Miller of Bedford, New Hampshire. Visitation will be at Rieth Rohrer Ehret Funeral Home, 311 S. Main St., Goshen, Indiana 46526, on Wednesday, Sept. 10, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. The funeral service will be held at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 417 S. Main St., Goshen, Indiana 46526, on Thursday, Sept. 11, at 11 a.m. Father Brian Florin will celebrate the mass of burial. On Friday, Sept. 12, Pat will be buried next to her husband Jim at 1 p.m. at St. Mary's Cemetery, 1915 Park St., Muskegon, Michigan 49441. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.
